Sulfenamide irreversibly inhibits the H+/K+ ATPase by binding covalently to the cysteine residues on the alpha subunit. The concentration of H+ in the stomach lumen is lowered, making the stomach less acidic. The H+/K+ ATPase pumps H+ into the stomach lumen and transports K+ into the parietal cell. Stomach Lumen pH= 1.5-3.5 pH= 7.0-7.4
