Pathway Description
Conversion of Succinate to Propanoate
Escherichia coli O26:H11 str. 11368
Category:
Metabolite Pathway
Sub-Category:
Metabolic

The enzymes involved in the decarboxylation of succinate to propionate are encoded in the Escherichia coli operon. A CoA transferase reaction is catalyzed by YgfH with succinyl CoA and propionyl CoA donating and succinate and propionate accepting. Sbm, sleeping beauty mutase or methylmalonyl-CoA mutase, is an apoenzyme that is activated by binding of adenosylcobalamin. Sbm catalyzes the methylmalonyl CoA mutase reaction. The metabolic function if this pathway is still unknown.
